Drop A Hint
Drop A Hint lets Shopify shoppers send the products they want to friends and family by email or WhatsApp, so stores recover sales that used to leak out the door.
Most wishlists die in a browser tab. Drop A Hint, built and shipped as a public Shopify app, gives shoppers a one-click way to put a product in front of the person most likely to buy it, by email or WhatsApp. When the gift lands, the original shopper gets a "Wish Granted" notification and the store closes a sale it would have lost.
The problem: intent walks out the door
Most wishlists die in a browser tab. A shopper finds something they love, they mean to come back, and they never do. The intent was real. The order just never happened.
Drop A Hint closes that gap. Instead of pushing the shopper to buy, it gives them a one-click way to put the product in front of the person most likely to buy it for them. A partner. A parent. A friend who already asked what they wanted for their birthday.
What I built
Drop A Hint is a public Shopify app, built full-stack and now live on the Shopify App Store. It sits right inside the store’s existing product pages. The shopper installs nothing. The recipient signs up for nothing.
From any product page, a customer picks who to tell, writes a short note, and sends the hint by email or WhatsApp. The recipient gets a clean, on-brand message with a direct link back to the product.
Store owners get a drag-and-drop email builder with seven ready-made templates, so hint emails match the brand without touching code. Conversion tracking and analytics are built in, so you can see exactly which hints turned into sales.
How it works
Four steps, browse to checkout.
A shopper drops a hint on a product page. The hint lands in the recipient’s inbox or WhatsApp. Optional discount codes nudge the gift-giver to finish the order. When they buy, the original shopper gets a “Wish Granted” notification, and the store books a sale it would have lost.
No account. No friction. The whole loop runs on channels people already check every day.
Built into the stack
Drop A Hint plays nicely with the tools a store already runs. Hint events flow into Klaviyo from the Pro tier up, so a brand can trigger automation flows and segment shoppers by real buying intent. Delivery runs over WhatsApp and email. Everything connects to the existing Shopify theme with no custom development.
The pricing model
The app ships four plans, each with a 7-day free trial. Starter at $20 a month suits stores testing wishlist-driven sales. Pro and Pro+ add Klaviyo, conversion incentives, and custom templates. Enterprise covers high-traffic stores with priority support. Every plan includes the Advanced Hint Composer and analytics, and extra hints are billed per use once a plan’s limit is reached.
Why it matters
A wishlist that stays with the shopper is a dead end. A wishlist that travels to the person holding the wallet is a sale. Drop A Hint turns window shoppers into revenue by moving the product to the buyer, instead of waiting for the buyer to wander back.
