Why BC exits go wrong
What goes wrong leaving BigCommerce.
BigCommerce has cleaner exports than most, but the migration still has sharp edges. Five to plan for:

Modifiers treated as variants. This is the one that sinks BigCommerce migrations. BigCommerce variants become purchasable SKUs and map to Shopify cleanly. BigCommerce modifiers (the engraving text box, the file upload, the "add $15 for gift wrap" checkbox) are not SKUs and have no Shopify equivalent at all. They get rebuilt as line-item properties or Functions. Count your modifier products before anyone quotes you: that number, not your SKU count, is the real size of the job.

More than three options. Shopify raised its variant limit to 2,048, but still allows only 3 options per product. A product configured across four or five dimensions cannot come over as-is, and automated tools will quietly drop the extras.

B2B price lists. BigCommerce B2B Edition customer-group pricing rebuilds on Shopify via companies and catalogs. As of 2026 that is on the standard paid plans, not only Plus, so a quote that assumes you must buy Plus for B2B is out of date and expensive.

Customer passwords handled the old way. BC hashes aren't Shopify hashes, so passwords never transfer. Shopify's passwordless customer accounts remove the reset wave entirely: email, six-digit code, in.

Channels + feeds. BC's native channel/feed setup (Google, marketplaces) needs reconnecting on Shopify so paid and shopping traffic doesn't stall.

How much SEO traffic will I lose?
With a proper 1:1 redirect map (including carrying across BigCommerce's existing 301s), 5-15% temporary dip then recovery by week 8. Without it, a much larger drop. Redirects are the deliverable that protects your rankings.
Can you rebuild my BigCommerce B2B pricing?
Yes. BigCommerce B2B Edition customer-group pricing rebuilds on Shopify with companies and catalogs, plus Functions where the price logic is genuinely custom: agreed-rate price lists per company, NET terms, draft-order workflow. Since 2026 this works on the standard paid plans, not only Plus, with a cap on the number of catalogs. So the honest answer is that many BigCommerce B2B stores no longer need Plus, and I will check that before quoting rather than assuming it.
Will my option sets migrate correctly?
Carefully, yes — BigCommerce option sets and price rules map to Shopify variants plus metafields (or Functions for complex pricing). This is the part automated tools get wrong; I map it by hand and validate against your live configurations.
